General Fishing Information
Licences – Unlike in the UK where one national licence will allow you to fish anywhere in the country, Spain is somewhat different, here you need to obtain a licence for the region for which you are fishing eg. Alicante/Valencia, Murcia, Castilla la Mancha etc. These can last for 1/3/5 years and the average cost is 8 euro’s per year. Pensioners and under 14’s do not have to pay for a licence but still must apply to the relevant authorities. Obviously on our guided trips licences are supplied for you.
Venues
Pedrera – Situated near the small town of Torremendo and probably the best and most popular in the area. Approximately 6kms x 3kms and holding mainly carp and barbel.Access can be difficult in parts and a 4x4 is advisable but there are access point for saloon cars.
Rio Segura – This runs through the local area and the most popular spots are at Guadamar, Benijofar and Murcia town centre. The river moves at a slow pace and is about 15 yards wide, however in Murcia town centre it widens and quickens and the fish are larger here reaching double figures. In parts it is wild and overgrown but that can be the attraction. It is usually a case of 15 minutes in a spot then moving on if nothing is happening. Minimum tackle and basic bread as bait and it is hard to believe such wild sizeable fish can survive in such a small overgrown venue.
Hondon Trucha – A manmade trout lake about 1 hour from Torrevieja. Tackle is supplied by the fishery or ourselves if needed and any method is allowed here. Fish can be taken away and they also have disabled access.
Elche De La Segura (Trout) – This is the Real Spain and it is advisable to include an overnight stay if possible. The accommodation and hospitality in the local hostel is excellent, the scenery is breathtaking and the river fishing can be the ultimate angling experience. Because you are able to fish any method to catch trout in Spain, the success rate is high. The cost is very reasonable and this trip is highly recommended.
Ruidera – This is situated in a national park approximately 3 hours from Torrieveja. It consists of 14 large freshwater lagoons, linked and fed by underground natural springs. Bites and runs can be slow but the fish are specimens.
Amadorio Reservoir – This is close to Benidorm and is a full day out. The venue is strictly controlled by a local club and is litter free with large fish. Due to the extra travelling and special administration costs regarding licences this trip is more expensive. The plus side to this is the fish go to above 20 kilos and on a good day you can expect plenty of runs. The scenery is spectacular and the area is clean and pleasant.
